Jewell Wants 'European' Form Against Newcastle!

A defeat that Sam Allardyce wants to revenge, and Derby boss Paul Jewell believes Derby will have to "show European form" for the rest of the season if they are to stand any chance of beating the drop.

Jewell: "Newcastle have had their problems this season but they had a good result at Fulham last week and it's a difficult place to go and play football, but also a really great place to go and play.

"While we have got a chance of playing in the Premier League, we owe it to the supporters and ourselves to have a good go at it.

"We are going to have to show European form between now and the end of the season to stand any chance of staying up. I know that and the supporters know that.

"But while there is hope, while there's an opportunity there, we are not going to give up. I won't and I'm pretty sure the players won't either.

"I'm not looking to get players out of the door - that doesn't mean there won't be any players leaving - it means 'look, we are obviously bottom of the league, we need to improve our squad'.

"If I was a player in the dressing room and I see two or three quality players coming in, I would be pleased because it gives the group a better chance of survival.

"There are no guarantees but it's obvious to anyone that looks at the table we need help."
