This week they suggest the club's billionaire owner Mike Ashley is losing popularity and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has been asked to spearhead a £250m takeover bid at St James Park.

Allegedly: "a consortium of super-rich businessmen have approached the former Blackburn and Southampton striker to help buy out Mike Ashley".

The infamous "Tyneside source" (probably some tramp who sleeps in Fenmwicks doorway) told the News of the World: "Alan has been contacted by a group who want to try and buy Newcastle. They're from the North-East and he knows some of the people who are involved.

"He certainly knows they are capable of raising the cash to put a very good offer to Mike Ashley."

Shearer was unavailable for comment, probably in the bog wiping his arse with the News of the World.
