Carroll struck a goal in each half against Man City reserves, with Benjani finding the net for the visitors in a keenly-fought game.

And the win saw United stretch their unbeaten run to seven games, and move up to second in the Premier Reserve League.

Money: "It was a tough game. The teamsheets before hand suggested it was going to be a good match, with some experienced players in both teams.

"I thought it was a good spectacle. Sometimes, it isn't easy for the senior players to come into the reserves, but we try to do it when we are here at St James's Park.

"It's a good environment to play well and to play properly. I don't think we've ever had a problem with any senior players when they have turned out.

"I thought Andy scored two terrific goals. The first one was a great finish, and the second one was a really good team goal. I'm sure he didn't do himself any harm."
