Newcastle United have announced their first pre-season friendly fixture for the 2017/18 campaign - a trip to League One Bradford City.

The Magpies will travel down to Valley Parade on Wednesday, July 26, to take on the Bantams, with kick-off at 7.30pm.

Alex Gilliead and Haris Vuckic were both sent on loan to Bradford last season from United, and the two clubs still enjoy a close working relationship.

In the coming days, Newcastle will also confirm the rest of their pre-season schedule, with a post on the club’s website stating that there will be friendlies “in the UK and in Europe”, as well as the traditional home match over the first weekend of August.

The Magpies are believed to be considering returning to the Republic of Ireland for another training camp this summer, while a friendly in Germany has also been touted.

Peter Beardsley’s Under-23 side will also head down to Whitby Town for a pre-season friendly tournament which also involves Celtic and AZ Alkmaar.

Ticket details for the first team’s clash with Bradford will be released in due course, while the time and date of the match is subject to change depending on confirmation from the relevant local authorities.
