If Sven Wants Owen He'll Have To Dig Deep!

Owen joined United from Real Madrid for £17million in August 2005 but his contact had more holes in it than a tramp's vest.

He was available in the summer in the 'Bargain Bin' for a cut-price figure with a free set of spoons, but no club was willing to take the chance because of his poor injury record.

Owen said later "I didn't want to leave Newcastle", but he waited until there were only hours remaining of the transfer window to say it.

There has been recent speculation about Owen's future for months, with Manchester City the latest club to be linked with the 27-year-old.

But Magpies chairman Mort claims there is no chance he could leave on the cheap.

Mort: "There was a clause in Michael's contract which allowed him to leave for a certain fee during the last transfer window and the summer before that as well, but that sort of clause does not exist any longer."
