If Only Owen Had Been Fit

Glenn Roeder has completed 50 games as Newcastle United boss - and he insists Michael Owen's absence has been his biggest regret.

GLENN ROEDER: "My biggest regret since becoming manager is the fact I have never been able to put Michael Owen on my team sheet. All I have been able to call on Michael is for 29 minutes as a substitute in our final away game at Birmingham City at the end of last season.
"That is why I am not only looking forward to having Michael back in a black-and-white shirt, but also to have some new players alongside him as well.
"I have only brought in three players since February and people might say I have not been active or very quick in bringing players in. I hope I get the opportunity to build my own squad here in the next 12 months.
"However, I have never been the sort of person who wanted to run before I could walk. While being patient are words which are not used too often in football, I know that is what I will have to be."
