Hugo out of Portugal squad with knee problem

Portugal’s medical staff has diagnosed the problem as ligament damage and he will undergo a scan on Tuesday to evaluate the extent of the problem.

"Hugo Viana has suffered a problem with his left knee. It was evaluated and we verified that there is an injury to the internal ligaments of the knee for which he will have a scan tomorrow," Portuguese doctor Enrique Jones told radio station TSF.

With Laurent Robert injured and Olivier Bernard facing the prospect of a three match ban after his sending off in tonight’s reserve game, we can ill afford for Viana to be out for any period of time.
