Hugo picked up the injury during the 2-1 victory over Southampton and was sent home from Portugal’s training camp ahead of Wednesday’s game with Scotland.

Despite press reports that the injury was serious, it has been diagnosed as mild ligament damage and although he will miss the trip to Old Trafford he will be available for the visit of Inter next week.

Olivier Bernard is expected to start on the left of midfield against Manchester United on Saturday and the Frenchman received further good news, when the FA confirmed that the one match ban for his dismissal against Bolton reserves only applies to second string fixtures.
