Chris Hughton did confirm things are “moving forward” on the transfer front.

According to the Journal, United made an initial offer for the Turkey striker earlier this week which was rejected and, according to sources in France, they are yet to follow up with an improved offer.

Hughton says that United will continue to do their business “in private”.

“There is nothing concrete to say on that at the moment. What we’re doing is making calls at the moment to determine who is available and then we will move on to make decisions,” Hughton said.

“We are making progress with that and I understand that people will want to know where we are with certain things but we prefer to do our business in private.

“I’m still confident of making the necessary additions to the squad but I don’t want to put a timescale on it.”
