Hughton Fears Putting Pressure On Himself!

Last updated : 19 February 2009 By Footy Mad - Editor
Chris Hughton: "You put pressure on yourself because you desperately want to get results, you want this team to be winning football matches.

"That's my responsibility for the time being and that's the pressure you put yourself under.

"I have experience in being in this position before so I am quite capable and confident of coping.

"What we are sensing here is that things have settled down.

"The transfer window is over and during that period there is always speculation about players. The group now have to see it through to end of the season.

"We have been through a lot but I sense we are a little bit more stable now though so we can get on with the important matters of playing football matches, playing well and pleasing the supporters.

"You don't switch off. What goes with responsibility is the amount of time you are thinking about the game, what you need to do to win the next one.

"You enjoy the moment when you win, but you quickly think about the next game. I am still sleeping though."

The United managerial situation still has a question mark hanging over it, with Kinnear not certain to return, and Wigan's Geordie boss Steve Bruce being linked with the job on a full-time basis next season.

One look at the record of Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood this season doesn't fill us with confidence!

United kick off their tough sequence on Tyneside against in-form Everton at Gallowgate before home games with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea - with relegation six- pointers away to Bolton and Hull sandwiched in between.

Hughton lost every one of his five games when he replaced Kevin Keegan as Newcastle manager.

Calderwood only won FOUR of his 26 games at Nottingham Forest this season, before they sacked him.

Between them ... a staggering four wins in 31 matches!
