Charlie Nicholas said on SKY TV last week that "46 points could take a club down".
But obviously that man went to a Glasgow school that didn't teach maths, and is well wide of the mark.
Last week Hughton said "relegation has not crossed my mind" ... but he had a rethink after the defeat at the Reebok ... "yes, we are facing a relegation battle".
Perhaps it should have "crossed his mind" a bit earlier, just as it did with Newcastle fans back in September!
He seems a bit slow on the up-take, does Chris, but the penny has finally dropped.
Chris Hughton: "It changes from week to week when everybody starts looking at the bottom few clubs and results they don't expect them to get, and they are getting those results.
"I am not quite sure, but we are not really focusing so much on the points we feel we need to get, it's about looking after our business and getting as many points as we can.
"We have a group of lads here who are very aware of where we are at the moment, who are very aware of what the scrap will be, as will the numerous players at the numerous clubs who are in the same position as we are.
"We have just got to make sure we have enough battling qualities to get away from that group.
"It's important to get as many players back as we can.
"Obafemi Martins will be now that little bit further along the line of his recovery and has been involved in three games now, so the more training he gets under his belt and the more games, we will see him go from strength to strength.
"But it is important to get the injured players back on board."
