'Honest' Pardew A Refreshing Change - Are You Watching Dalglish?

The former Newcastle boss took a leaf out of Sir Alex Ferguson's book, chapter one, page one - "if something goes against you - you didn't see it!"

It was expected, and you had to cringe when you watched Dalglish talk a load of bollox to defend (what everybody else believed to be) day-light robbery.

But that cannot be said of Alan Pardew, who yesterday wore his heart on his sleeve and said Wolves had been "robbed" by the referee as Newcastle continued their remarkable unbeaten run.

Pardew admitted that his side had ridden their luck as they extended their unbeaten run to nine games.

Alan Pardew: “I don’t think deserved is the word I would use about that win.

“I did think we played very well in the first half and it gave us the platform to win the game.

“Certainly we lost control of the second half at times – we were over eager and making mistakes and it was a hot day. I thought that was a factor.

“Wolves were also very good. I’d watched the two performances where they’d got beaten and they were much, much better.

“In my view they deserved something from the game.

“It was all hands to the pump and we got really nervous but that’s to be expected – we’re a young team.

“We haven’t got that experience of a Kevin Nolan or Joey Barton who might have stopped or slowed down the game.

“We’re a different team and we need to see games out better than we did.

“Tim Krul had more work to do than in about three of our games, if I’m honest.

“That’s why you need a good goalie. But we have a lot of attributes to our team and we had to show different sides to our game.

“It could have been a very different game – about half-way through that second half we had two really good chances to get a third goal and then there is no grandstand finish.”

"There were some contentious decisions by ref Mark Halsey and the offside goal could have been given.

“We were fortunate with that decision.

“I’ve seen it, it was really tight. The linesman gave it for out of play and it looked very, very tight.

“I saw the fan’s reaction to the penalty shout and I thought it was a penalty with Steven Taylor's challenge on Jamie O’Hara. So I’d already accepted that one.

“And if I’m honest, that might not have been the worst thing that could have happened to us. At half-time, if you’re 2-0 up the psychology of the dressing room is different.

“I think we felt like we were a little bit comfortable. but you’re never comfortable at Molineux – as we’ve proved down the years.

“I don’t think Newcastle have won here since 1990! It’s never, never an easy place to win.”
