Krul eventually giving up on them and grabbed an Easyjet flight back to Holland and signed for AZ Alkmaar until the end of the season on loan.

Tim Krul was assured first team involvement and only four days after signing he made his first start for AZ.

Playing at home to PSV on Saturday night, it proved to be a nightmare for the loan keeper.

Before Tim Krul had even made a single save he had picked the ball out of the net twice, Jetro Willems scoring twice in the first 16 minutes to give PSV a two goal lead.

AZ instantly pulled one back but just before half-time, Gaston Pereiro put a third past the Newcastle keeper.

With 10 minutes to go it was Luuk de Jong’s turn to beat Tim Krul, the former Newcastle loan player making it 4-1 t the visitors.

Siem de Jong made a brief appearance for the final six minutes but couldn’t add to Krul’s misery, instead AZ made the scoreline marginally more respectable with a late goal to give a final score of 4-2 to PSV.
