According to a report from the Sun, Peter Kenyon is getting desperate in his attempts to raise the £300 million needed to buy Newcastle, and is attempting to 'crowdfund' by appealing to potential investors with the opportunity of buying into the club for a minimum of £1 million.
Toon owner Mike Ashley has dug his heels in, and is reportedly not willing to drop his £300 million asking price - a fee that Kenyon and his consortium are struggling to match.
The Magpies' off-field troubles have been mirrored on the pitch, and with Rafa Benitez's side currently sitting in 15th spot in the Premier League table, just two points clear of the drop zone, their top flight safety is seriously under threat.
The Sun claims that Kenyon is not put off by that risk, however, and is still desperate to acquire the funds needed to complete a takeover at Newcastle.
The British tabloid claims that Mike Ashley views Kenyon as the best fit to buy the club, but the former Manchester United and Chelsea Chief Executive would only be able to pay the current Newcastle owner in instalments, even if he is successful in his 'crowdfunding' attempts.
Whatever happens, something needs to be decided sooner rather than later, so the club can focus purely on playing football, and perhaps with no uncertainty in the background, the Toon can finally make strides to finally fulfil their massive potential.
