Have Geordie Fans Had Enough Of Ashley And Kinnear?

Last updated : 31 January 2014 By Footy Mad - Editor

But all that was confirmed was what we knew already - Newcastle United is a "selling" club and Mike Ashley has no ambition whatsoever to build on what could he a half-decent season.

Alan Pardew insisted (in a whisper in case Ashley heard) that Cabaye "MUST be replaced", but it was hardly going to happen, was it.

But this was a big opportunity for Ashley to win some friends and actually 'influence' people. And it wasn't that difficult to do.

A couple of "marquee signings", as Pardew calls them, would have boosted hopes ahead of the derby, but Ashley has no intention of PLEASING the Geordies who hate him so much.

Pardew says Ashley is a "wounded animal who doesn't take kindly to criticism" ... and he was in no hurry to help his own business interest.

A high-flying NUFC would produce a massive windfall if they got into Europe, but he seems to be of the same mind-set as Pardew who shits himself at the very thought of another adventure abroad.

Newcastle United kick off Saturday’s Tyne-Wear clash in eighth place, with a big gap between themselves and 9th placed Southampton.

Unless Southampton improve considerably, Tottenham Hotspur or Everton regress or Manchester United plunge into crisis, the probability is that they will complete the campaign in eighth or there about.

The question for Newcastle, beyond a lengthy stay in eighth place, is simple: where do they go now?

Three years after Andy Carroll exited Newcastle in a January window, it confirmed that Mike Ashley’s willingness to sell at the right price remains a staple of his ownership, whether of sports stores or football clubs.

Director of football Joe Kinnear, displaying his uncanny ability to look an idiot by saying: “I will not let any player leave Newcastle United in this transfer window.”

Kinnear, with his awkward attempts to sign players, seems to put them off!

Chief scout Graham Carr’s ability to unearth under-priced talents in France is Ashley's chicken who lays the golden eggs, and is better thought of than the manager.

Pardew keeps his head down; his nose clean; and does what he's told. In other words ... a wimp!

Gus Poyet joined Sunderland on the condition the Director of football gets the boot ... but Pardew would get a kick up the arse if he suggested Kinnear was a waste of space.

What confuses many supporters is Ashley's attitude - he did not become a billionaire by allowing assets to depreciate.

He knows the time was right to move on the 28-year-old Cabaye, sold before his value could go down. But you would expect him to invest (at least) some of the money.

The replacement they wanted, though Lyon refused to sell Clement Grenier, is five years younger and decidedly cheaper.

Yet it prompts the question - is Ashley running a business or a club with the aim of climbing the table.

Some clubs find themselves drowning in debt. Under Ashley, that will not happen.

Yet the immediate concern is that Newcastle have NO ambition at all.

They have borrowed Dutchman Luuk de Jong, fifth place striker in the pecking order to get in the Borussia Monchengladbach side.

That does not necessarily say he will be rubbish, but the stats are not encouraging.

Ashley's only ambition is finding undervalued gems and selling them on to bigger spenders, preferring prudence to aspiration.

And that has been the case since he took over.

We will NEVER win a trophy under him or "puppet" Pardew.
