Let's be honest here ... when a young player goes out on loan it is to gain experience and get some games under their belt.

When an old-timer like Harewood is ditched down the leagues, there is only one reason for it ... they cannot cut it at the club they are at.

He came to Tyneside with a reputation of being a slacker, and he hasn't disappointed. The man has been guttless, only runs when he's being substituted, and looks as interested as a gay at an Ann Summers party.

Yet Chris Hughton has to justify him being here, because he signed him, and he's even threaten to BUY him in the January transfer window! Oh God!

Marlon Harewood (talking to the Daily Star): "When I came here I didn't expect to be treated like this but it's happened and I've got to deal with it. I've had a lot of criticism.

"People are entitled to their opinion but I try not to take much notice because it comes with the territory.

"I'm a professional, this is my job and I have to try and overcome it and change people's opinions about me.

"I knew there would be pressure on me and it hasn't been easy at times, but I still back myself.

"I have the ability to succeed here and that's what I intend to do. It's been hard at times and it's taken time to get going again.

"If Chris Hughton wants me, I'd definitely want to stay.

"To be part of this group of lads has been fantastic and they have supported me through everything."
