Halsey has been on the front pages of the newspapers because he did not send off Callum McManaman for his horror tackle on Massadio Haidara in the Wigan-Newcastle game on March 17.

Probably to keep him off Match Of The Day and the critics, he will not referee a top flight game this weekend.

This is the first round of PL matches since the McManaman incident, due to the international break, but Halsey will be on the whistle for Friday's League One game between Coventry and Doncaster.

Halsey claimed a 'blocked view' for his decision not to issue a red card to McManaman, but because one of his two assistants saw the incident, retrospective action could not be taken under the FA's current disciplinary rules.

Halsey will be the fourth official for Reading's trip to Arsenal on Saturday.
