Gutierrez To Get Last Crack At Premier League?

Last updated : 05 November 2014 By Footy Mad - Editor

He wants to return to Newcastle next month to sort out his future, but he knows as well as the rest of us, that his time in a black and white shirt is over.

The Argentine winger announced on Monday that he had been given the “all-clear” after treatment for testicular cancer.

That alone is worth more to him than anything else, and I'm sure he sees life through different goggles.

But he has told friends he would love to return to the English Premier League and return to the form that made him a Geordie icon.

Gutierrez was given chemo therapy which caused sickness and his hair to fall out, and he couldn't see beyond the next day.

His contract with Newcastle runs out in June next year, and wouldn't it be such an emotional event if Alan Pardew gave him a cameo appearance as substitute to let the player ... and the supporters ... say "goodbye"?

Will it happen? In a perfect world ... yes ... but probably unlikely.

The player known as "Spiderman" says he would love to be involved with another club as soon as possible.

Talking from Argentina: “Today I feel 100 per cent compared to how I was during chemo. I feel much stronger and have got a lot more get up and go.

“It was a punishing treatment, but I am happy and little by little getting back to normal.

“I have learned from everything that has happened to me. I never asked, ‘Why me?’, instead I confronted it head-on.”

The Wind Of Change For Fighting Obertan!

Alan Pardew told us "Gabriel Obertan could be the answer" when United were struggling in September. Provoking the reply "If Obertan is the answer, WTF is the question?"

But the Frenchman has turned heads on his return to the first team, and has been instrumental in the run of victories during October.

But he pulled up sharp in the match with Liverpool and 52,000 supporters knew it was going to be an injury he wasn't going to run off.

Obertan could be out for five months after scans revealed significant damage.

Further tests will be required to determine the full extent of the injury but the very earliest we can expect him back is the Christmas period.

Alan Pardew told reporters at his after match conference on Saturday: “The only real sour note for us was Obertan, who has been a big part of the success in the past weeks.

“We were so unfortunate to lose him, and he looks like he has got a bad injury, and that’s such a shame. He has been absolutely flying, and that knocked our spirit a little bit.

“He’s well-liked in the dressing room, so there’s a tinge of sadness a little bit with our win. I hope it’s not as bad as we think.”
