He last scored a league goal on 6th May 2007 when playing for Spanish club Real Mallorca in a 3-1 win over Osasuna ... and that was his first goal in six months,

So, one goal in three years, and he was decribed in some circles as "fur coat and no knickers" for his style of play. Flashing ... but with no end product!

But, with a bit of good fortune, he finally got it right against Posh on Saturday.

OK it was against Peterborough, not exactly Spanish/English giants, and it was not in the top flight ... but it's a start. After all, this man will be playing in the World Cup next summer, so perhaps it was time to get his arse in gear.

Jonas Gutierrez: "I left it in the changing room because I have read something in the newspapers that I didn't like about me, that I want to leave Newcastle, so I didn't want to celebrate because it's not true.

"I am happy at Newcastle and I want to be here next year. I want to be here next year in the Premier League and nothing else.

"I have wanted to score since I came here, so I am very happy about that. It's my first one and now I will try to score more in the rest of the season."

So he is now going to "try to score more in the rest of the season".

Very good Jonas ... very kind of you.
