Guthrie: 'Fans Are As Frustrated As The Players'!

Danny Guthrie: "It's a horrible place to be in.

"No one wants to be there, no one wants it on their CV - involvement in a team being relegated. From my point of view, I'm going to do everything I can to ensure that's not on my record. It does hurt, even to the extent of being embarrassing because of the size of this club and the players that we've got. It's the last thing you want.

"When you're in training it does take your mind off it but sometimes away from the club it can still play on your mind, after the game, on the night, or the day after.

"You try to take your mind off it but there's not a lot you can do at this time of the season because you do need to rest, you're starting to get tired now. If I don't go for dinner I'll play on the X-Box, or watch TV or DVDs.

"While it's still possible you have to believe. I haven't contemplated going down, even though it's there, it's a realism. I'm just concentrating on the positives, we have to keep believing. It's disappointing not to have won (against Portsmouth). The fans' reaction at the end of the game, you can feel their frustration.

"It's also frustrating being a player too, it's hard to take when your fans react like that but you can understand it because they expect a lot from the team.

"We expect a lot from ourselves too. We've built it up as a must-win and we only got the draw - but we still don't know how good that point's going to be.

"We had chances to win. The more the game went on the more open it became. You definitely didn't want to lose the game, because a point at the end of the day might keep us up.

"You have to take that positive out of it. The teams around us lost at the weekend, so results went for us and we gained an extra point. I know it's not three points but we did gain a point and that could prove vital at the end of the season."
