But the Bolton keeper seems happy as the club are "heading in the right direction".

Jaaskelainen: "The way we've been defending has been delightful. I've been very happy with my centre-halves.

"They are playing very well together and seem to be getting better every week.

"People can see from the results we are improving. We've been a bit unlucky with a few decisions which have gone against us.

"We need to play the way we have been doing and make it tough for them.

"Liverpool is a difficult place to go but hopefully we can get something. If we keep working hard the team will get out of trouble."

Given: "Of course both Steve Harper and myself have heard all the talk about Jussi coming here.

"But don't forget that both Steve and myself have been at St James's Park a long time and we have heard all this talk and speculation before.

"I know what I can do, and that's what I will be concentrating on and I am sure Steve Harper feels the same.

"I have had a great career with both Newcastle and Ireland but I don't consider that it has been a lucky career. I came to Newcastle to win trophies and I am still waiting.

"And I hoped that I would have played in more than just one major tournament for my country after the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea."
