Shay Given: "We are in a relegation fight, there is no getting away from that.

"We've seen what happened at Leeds. Something similar could happen here. I'm not saying it would but it could easily do that.

"It is a difficult time. If you have a bad game as a player, the easiest thing to do is to say it is because the club is up for sale.

"It's not nice seeing Newcastle at the bottom. It's not nice for the fans. We are a big club who should not be down in our position. We have to stick together and get out of it.

"When it goes bad it is horrific but when it goes well it really takes off. You get the whole place rocking.

"We've been in the Champions League before and finished third, fourth and fifth in the Premier League. There is definitely the potential to get us back up there.

"Joe Kinnear has come into a very difficult situation and he deserves a lot of credit. He's got the boys behind him.

"If you're not pulling your socks up he will tell you and as a player you like that. You want honesty. He gives you that. I think my future is here, unless someone tells me different.

"Hopefully the club will start moving forward again in the coming months and I would love to be part of that."
