Given For Spurs? The Rumours Continue!

As Spurs protected their lead, there were worrying scenes for Redknapp as goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes required lengthy treatment after Philipp Degen caught him in the face with his boot.

Gomes was carried off on a stretcher in a neck brace, with oxygen required for the Brazilian, who was replaced by Cesar Sanchez.

Gomez maybe fearless ... but he has cost Spurs precious points this season with his erratic handling and eccentric positioning ... and cost the club two goals last night.

Redknapp has already put out the feelers for Given, saying "of course I'd be interested in a goalkeeper of Shay's standards, should he become available.

"He is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership, if not the world."

The one thing - we thought - that would keep Shay at SJP is the opportunity to break the appearance record, but he says he didn't even know he'd reached 450 games.

With owner Mike Ashley currently attempting to offload the club, saying he will NOT be strengthened in January, but could make a few bucks on the star players ... Shay happens to be one of those star players.

Given is in line to make his 452nd appearance for the club against Wigan.

Only three men have played more games for the Magpies, and the Irishman is within touching distance of Jimmy Lawrence's club record of 496.

Given: "I don't look at it too much, to be honest. I made my 450th appearance against Aston Villa - I didn't know before the game.

"I always just look to the next game, given the injuries I have had in the last couple of years.

"You are one challenge away from never playing again, so I don't like to look too far ahead.

"I would love to get it (the record), but if I don't get it, I don't get it.

"You just play and do your best for the club and see where that takes you."
