This season alone he now has 21 goals in 30 Championship starts (plus five sub appearances).

On top of that Dwight Gayle also has seven assists and has won most of the eight penalties his strike partner Jay Rodriguez has scored this season.

On Wednesday the Newcastle loan striker has now also picked up the player of the season award from the West Bromwich Albion’s Disabled Supporters Club.

Asked by the Express and Star if he sees himself staying at the Hawthorns permanently:

“Yes, of course.

“I have really enjoyed the season and the fans have taken to me and showed great support.

“It’s a massive achievement for me.

“To see that what I have done on the field over the year has been appreciated so generously by our supporters is great.

“I know that we need to push on now and hopefully we can finish the season on a real high.

“They welcomed us here with open arms, it was a fantastic day.

“The fans really enjoyed it and the boys had big smiles on their faces so it’s a nice gesture for us to show our support back to them and to thank them.”
