The gates, which stood at the Gallowgate End for decades, were removed in the 1990s and have been stored at Woolsington Hall, a mansion restored by Sir John Hall.
And the club and NUFC Fans United have now come to an agreement which will see the gates installed in time for the beginning of next season.
The gates, which were donated to the supporters’ branch by Sir John Hall last year, are ready to be collected from storage and will soon be restored.
Over the past 15 months fans from the branch have been working alongside Sir John, Newcastle City Council and the club to bring the plans together.
A NUFC Fans United spokesman: “Hopefully, by the start of next season the restored gates will be installed and over time become a focal point that all supporters of Newcastle United as well as visitors to this great city will embrace.
“We view the recommissioning of the gates as an ongoing and lasting tribute to every Newcastle United supporter, player and club official who has ever entered the hallowed shrine that is St James’ Park.”
A club spokesperson: “We’re delighted to be working closely with our fans on a wide range of issues. Discussions for the proposed restoration and installation of the gates will continue behind the scenes and we’ll be updating everyone publicly as soon as the project progresses.”
