Frenchman To Sign

The French midfielder was a surprise free transfer in August, but he has made a huge impact at St James' Park in the last six months.

Glenn Roeder signed him from Manchester City on the last day of the close season transfer deadline.

Roeder: "In my opinion Antoine has turned out to be one of the best free transfers of the season.

"I will be speaking to the chairman about giving him another season, and we know we also have to discuss the contracts of Titus Bramble, Nobby Solano and Craig Moore.

"But none of this will happen until after this month's transfer deadline because we are putting so much of our efforts and energy in trying to bring some new players into the club. Everyone knows we could do with some new players. But they have to be the right players.

"I know that I could sign a bad player every day between now and the end of the transfer window - but I won't do that."
