Glenn Roeder has made it known Upson is a player he would like to see at St James' Park, but the queue to sign the ex-Arsenal player is growing. So chairman Freddy Shepherd will have to dig deep to buy him.

Upson is out of contract at the end of next season and has been linked with a move to Newcastle in the January transfer window.
Bruce: "Of course people are going to court him because he has only got 18 months [left on his contract] - but why would I want to sell my best player?
We are going along nicely, and I want to see Matthew Upson play for us and take us where we want to be.
"We don't want him to go anywhere. He has only got 18 months to go, but it is going to take an absolutely crazy deal to even consider letting our best player go just when we need him."
