Now Wigan boss Roberto Martinez says N'Zogbia wants to switch his allegiance from France to England.

Despite having represented France at Under-21 level N'Zogbia has the required residential credentials to play for England.

With England light of left-sided options given Ashley Cole's injury and Wayne Bridge's self-imposed exile, Martinez feels N'Zogbia - who has experience of playing at left-back - is a viable alternative for Capello.

Martinez.: "I asked Charles the other day about England and he said he was hoping to get the call.

"I thought he wanted to play for France but he's been living in England so long now he's ready to represent whichever country asks him.

"He's only 23 and hasn't peaked yet - he's certainly got the potential to get into the England squad."
