Bob Moncur (talking to the Chronicle): "It would have been nice to get three points at Blackburn because it would have eased the situation.

"But the fact that we got beaten has meant the situation is now a crisis. Having been involved with Newcastle United for all of these years, that does happen.

"You get to a point when a bad result means it becomes a crisis. This will make something happen.

"The fact that people are having a go at the owner and asking questions is a good thing, because while the transfer window is open something needs to happen.

"The big problem for the supporters is a lack of information. We read one statement saying certain things. But the truth is we don't know what is going on.

"If they tell us what they are trying to do it will help.

"Sure, we might not like what we are hearing, but it is better than being kept in the dark.

"Mike is a businessman and he is trying to run the club properly. And if he is doing that, and trying to stabilise the club, then I'm on his side.

"I'm all for that, but what he needs to do is come out and tell us.

"To be honest, I never think that throwing money at the problem achieves much. It's been proved before that it can land you in more trouble.

"But looking down the squad, the need for bodies is obvious, reinforcements are required if Newcastle need to get out of the dogfight.

"Sadly, with two weeks of the transfer window left there isn't much stock left on the shelves."
