Sunderland are interested in signing former Newcastle United and Hull City goalkeeper Steve Harper, according to The Sun.

The Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat wants the stopper as an “extra body” in his squad.

Vito Mannone is keen on leaving Sunderland while Advocaat looks likely to allow Jordan Pickford to leave the club on loan next season.

Harper, 40, was released by Hull at the end of the season following their relegation from the Premier League. He was mainly used as an understudy to Allan McGregor during his time at the KC Stadium and made just 23 appearances in two years at the club.
