Former Toon Boss Snubs Wigan!

Former Newcastle manager Steve McClaren has turned down the chance to be the next Wigan Athletic manager, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Image result for Newcastle Steve McClarenWigan are currently searching for a new manager following the sacking of Warren Joyce back in March. Graham Barrow has been in caretaker charge of the club but could not prevent Wigan from suffering relegation back down to League One this season.

Steve McClaren was reportedly considered and approached about becoming Wigan’s new manager. However, he turned the job offer down.

McClaren, 56, has managed several clubs both in England and abroad. Following spells as an assistant manager at Derby County, Manchester United and England, McClaren got his first manager’s job with Middlesbrough in 2001. After five years and 250 games in charge, he left the club in 2006.

McClaren has since had spells in charge of England, Twente, Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and most recently Derby County.

In his first spell with Derby beginning in 2013, McClaren was a very popular figure and led the club to the Championship Play-Off Final.

He was sacked in 2015 before returning to the club in October 2016.

However, McClaren was sacked yet again by Derby after only five months in charge.
