The Iron, who currently lie fifth in the division and are expected to at least make the end of season playoffs, have snapped up Jeffrey on a months loan from first division strugglers Grimsby Town.

The striker joined United after spells with Doncaster Rovers and Bolton Wanderers left St James for Fortuna Sittard in 1995 after making just two appearances for the Toon.

Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws tried to sign Jeffrey from the Dutch outfit, but the player opted for Kilmarnock instead.

However Laws has now got his man, albeit via Grimsby.

Jeffrey will feature for the Iron on Saturday as they host Carlsile United, the match will also feature current United youngster Stuart Green who is on loan in the North West with Carlisle.
