The 26-year-old was a regular in the French team as they qualified for the event, but he is now preparing to watch the tournament from the sidelines
as William Gallas and Lilian Thuram look to be the defensive partnership.

"I have been first choice but I'm not any more. I can still help the squad by not sulking and by working hard. I'm not going to hold a knife to the coach's throat or anything like that. I want to play and you never know what might happen. The World Cup has not even started yet and a lot of things can happen, things can change.

"Lets see what happens at the World Cup. I'm going there with the intention of playing. If I don't play in the first game, the challenge will be reserved for another day. I will just keep working hard and be ready.

"I will put pressure on the players ahead of me but I will do it in the correct manner. Only the coach knows why he has made the decision. I have to take the positives from it. I am ambitious and I want to play but, although I am not the first choice now, I cannot take it badly. I have to use the time to regroup and to work hard until my moment comes. I will not look for confrontation. That can bring confusion. I know what I have to do.

"The most important thing is the well-being of the French team. If I don't play but the team does well, I will be happy. But it will be even better if the team does will and I'm in it."
