Tommy Craig took a young reserve side to Queen of the South for the season’s first friendly on Saturday and they earned a 1-1 draw thanks to a Guy Bates goal.

But the club now fear that the injury sustained by midfielder Ferrell is a recurrence of the knee problem that left him requiring surgery at the end of last season.

A worried Craig told the Evening Chronicle: "Andy had a cartilage operation last season and as yet we don't know if it's a recurrence. The physios will determine that in the next day or two."
