1995/97 Ferdinand has backed Michael Owen to be a hit at St James's Park, even though the England international is into his THIRD season at the club.Ferdinand scored 50 goals in two seasons at St James's Park, between 1995/97 in 83 games, but he says Owen's problems have not been helped by the press.
Ferdinand: "You can do well for club and country.
"You can't win sometimes with the national media, especially where Newcastle's concerned.
"They're a big club and they are striving to put themselves on the map again.
"While that's going on, people will try to upset the apple cart, but Michael's in a rich vein of form, and if he was only scoring goals for England people would have a reason to moan.
"But he's scoring goals for Newcastle, as well, and I think he'll get better."
