'Fancy Pants' Parker Joins West Ham For £7m

Apparently there was late interest from Tottenham, but West Ham chief executive Scott Duxbury was involved in late-night talks with Parker's representatives on Wednesday.

Parker is now set to meet with West Ham officials after the two clubs agreed a fee.

West Ham manager Alan Curbishley sees Parker as a potential captain and the ideal replacement for current skipper Nigel Reo-Coker, who has handed in a transfer request.

Parker made his England debut in 2003 while at Charlton before completing a £10million move to Chelsea in January 2004.

He moved to Newcastle in the summer of 2005 for £6.5million and was appointed captain at the start of last season. But he has not impressed Newcastle fans and there was a period last season when the East Stand gave him stick because he bottled two tackles at that end of the field and the fans showed their feels.

Newcastle's new manager Sam Allardyce will not stand in his way, as I believe he doesn't see Parker as the player he needs for his "holding midfield" position. It is strongly reported he sees Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton as more influential in the position than Parker.
