The former Aston Villa boss was sacked after a 5-1 thrashing by West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday.

It left QPR rooted to the bottom of the table with just three draws to show from seven games.

First-team coach Mick Harford has been appointed caretaker manager and will be in charge when QPR face Colchester at Layer Road on Wednesday.

Gregory, 53, took over in September 2006 and saved the club from relegation last season.

Big strong Mick was quite a guy. Went on to have a great career, even capped by England.

Will be remembered at SJP as being part of the strangest transfer of all time.

Signed for Bristol City for £160,000 but they couldn't afford him, so he went to Newcastle for a DAY on a free transfer, then on to Birmingham for £100,000.
