Swansea winger Wayne Routledge has committed himself to the Premier League club until 2019.

The 32-year-old could also earn a further year if he meets an appearance-based clause in the 2018-19 season.

"The club wanted me to stay here and I wanted to commit myself further. It was a no-brainer," Routledge told the official Swansea website.

"There was recent interest from other clubs, but for me there wasn't really a decision to be made about my future here.

"For someone who has been at a lot of clubs and has moved around a lot, it's a nice feeling to have finally settled.

"I've been here since our first season in the Premier League and I'm personally very proud of what we have achieved so far. It's panned out so well.

"My daughter was born here, my family is set up here - we love it here.

"To have settled here, start a family and be happy in Swansea - that takes the weight off my mind when I'm on and off the pitch.

"The new contract could take me to nearly 10 years at this club.

"It's been a really enjoyable time of my career and life, but hopefully there are more good times ahead."

Routledge joined Swansea in August 2011 following the Welsh club's promotion to the top flight.

He had previously played for eight clubs, including Tottenham, Aston Villa, QPR and Newcastle.

Routledge has since made 204 appearances for Swansea, scoring 20 goals, and believes the club can win their relegation battle under new head coach Paul Clement.

"We are not in a great position right now, but we are working very hard each day to rectify that," Routledge said.

"The result at Liverpool (3-2 win last weekend) showed what we are capable of.

"Hopefully it can give us a boost and has set a platform for us to produce more performances like that to move up the table.

"We have only touched the surface of what we are capable."
