Newcastle are preparing to make an offer for AC Milan forward Fabio Borini in January.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, via the Sunderland Echo, Newcastle are very interested in securing a deal for the former Liverpool man.

The report claims that Rafa Benitez is a big fan of Borini, who has traveled to Italy to watch the striker in person this season.

Borini has struggled for form at Milan this season, with only one goal in 11 games so far.

Tutto Mercato Web claim that Milan are open to offers for Borini, which could give Newcastle a boost in their pursuit of the Italian international.

The 27-year-old scored five goals in 43 games for Milan last season, after he joined the club from Sunderland.

Borini spent three seasons with Sunderland, where he scored 17 goals in 93 appearances for the club.
