Turkey dropped two valuable points in their quest to qualify for Euro 2008 as they were held to a draw 1-1.

Viorel Frunza gave Moldova the lead in the 11th minute but substitute Umit Karan spared Turkish blushes with a second half equaliser.

The Turks had the first chance of the match as Emre was fouled by Alexandru Epureanu on the edge of the box.

Three men stood over the free kick but it was Mehmet Topuz who blazed his shot high and wide into the crowd.

The home side then frustrated the Turks, limiting their best chances to set pieces with an Emre free-kick presenting Gokhan Zan with a header that was saved by Calancea.

The visitors could have taken the lead just moments after equalising, as Emre had a free-kick from 25 yards brilliantly tipped over the bar.

The Newcastle player took the resulting corner found Zan who had a free header at the back post but glanced it wide.

TURKEY: Arikan (Demirel 17), Cetin, Zan, Uzulmez, Emre, Topuz,Aurelio, Turan (Metin 69), Inan (Karan 46), Sanli, Unal.
