FA spokesman: "The FA have charged Newcastle United midfielder Belozoglu Emre with using racially-aggravated abusive and/or insulting words. The charge relates to an incident during the match against Everton at Goodison Park on December 30, 2006. He has until 29 January to respond to the charge."
However, Newcastle responded by confirming the former Inter Milan star would deny the allegations.
Newcastle statement: "We are aware that the FA have charged Emre, but, as the player has not yet had an opportunity to submit a reply to the charge, we cannot comment further at this time other than to say the player intends to deny the charge."
