The Turk has been under immense pressure in his homeland where he has been used as a scapegoat for the national team's previously poor qualification campaign.

But he produced a fabulous performance in Oslo with a wonderful solo goal which set the Turks on the way to a vital win.

They now need to beat Bosnia at home to qualify for Austria and Switzerland.

Turkey came from a goal down to beat Norway in the penultimate round of Euro 2008 qualifiers on Saturday evening and move above the Scandinavians in the hunt for the second qualifying position in Group C.

Norway went ahead early on following a stunning overhead effort from defender Erik Hagen, but Turkey came back into the game when Emre equalised on the half-hour mark.

The visitors sealed the win when Nihat Kahveci struck on 59 minutes to leave the Turks favourites to join European champions Greece as qualifiers from the pool.

Norway went ahead through a goal of real quality on 12 minutes.

Steffen Iversen flicked on a free-kick and Hagen, with his back to goal, controlled the ball with his chest and fired an unstoppable overhead kick into the roof of the net to send the Norwegian fans into raptures.

John Carew had a header saved as Norway searched for a second goal, but Turkey remained dangerous and got back into the game on 31 minutes.

Emre beat his man on the edge of the area, made space and blasted a dipping drive past Norwegian goalkeeper Hakon Opdal.

Villarreal striker Nihat Kahveci saw his first effort saved, but then gave his side a precious lead on 59 minutes, when he received the ball from substitute Gokhan Gonul and fired past Opdal with his right foot.
