Elliott Says Moncur 'Exaggerates' Rivalry

We all know the rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland ... so you don't need me to lay it on the line ... but Elliott says he has never had trouble from either sets of fans even though he crossed 'the great divide' moving from the Tyne to the Wear.
Gosforth-born Elliott had made more than 180 appearances for the Magpies when he made a surprise switch to Sunderland last summer.

Elliott: "Playing for Sunderland was never a problem for me, and I have to thank the supporters at both clubs for that. I had no stick or bother from either side and I hope it's the same for Michael.

"It might be a little bit different for him because he's a striker who has cost £5m, but I guess is depends on whether he starts well and scores goals. I hope he does and I hope it works out.

"I was fortunate in a certain respect in that the clubs were in different divisions when I was at Sunderland. I never had to face Newcastle, but Michael will.

"That might be a bit touchy, but Michael's a sensible lad and I'm sure he will keep his head down and make a success of it.

"There will be pressure on him, but I'm sure he can handle it. I'm sure he's going there for the right reasons and I'm sure he will score goals."

Chopra bade a fond farewell to Cardiff City and was quick to thank the Bluebirds for his chance:

Chopra: "I am sad to leave, It's been a pleasure and the fans have been fantastic to me. But I have to do what's best for my career and my dream was always to get back into the Premiership. I love the city and I love the club."

Reports over the weekend linked City with a move for Blackburn Rovers reject Francis Jeffers.

Arsene Wenger's 'fox-in-the-box' enjoyed a successful loan period with Ipswich Town last season and the Tractor Boys have been trying to tie up a permanent deal for the striker.

Cardiff were cited as rivals for the former England man's signiture but that claim has been refuted by club chairman Peter Ridsdale who dismissed the rumour as 'nonsense'.
