Dyer And The Leeds "Brat Pack"

Dyer and his big pal Jonathan Woodgate have suffered over the years with injury problems, but they will come face to face at St James' Park.

Roeder: "Kieron Dyer is a very important player for us tomorrow, along with Obafemi Martins. In fact, I would say that Dyer is probably our key man. He has got over his virus and come back into training, where he has been flying and looking very sharp. To be fair, so too has Oba Martins.

"Gareth Southgate's coaching staff admitted at the Riverside earlier in the season that they could easily have been two or three goals down by the interval, and from our point of view it was three points given away.

"But this is what happens in the Premiership when you don't take your chances. There are a lot of key areas tomorrow, but I have seen Middlesbrough twice recently and it is important that we get to grips with them in the centre of midfield."

How times have changed. Can you remember when Leeds were playing in the Champions League and Dyer used to travel to Elland Road for all of their European fixtures? Dyer was part of that England "Brat Pack" that included Lee Bowyer, Woodgate and Rio Ferdinand and it was rumoured for months that Dyer was going to join the Yorkshire club.

How they wish they had those players now.
