Duo's arrival appears unlikely - where to now?

Glasgow Rangers have apparently slapped a £10 million price tag on Jean Alain Boumsong ahead of our much publicised January approach.

There was talk last week that we would make a move for both John O’Shea and Boumsong when the transfer window reopens, but the possibility of either joining the ranks at St.James Park now looks unlikely.

Following Rangers refusal to sell unless we offered a fee double our original £5 million offer, Souness has apparently distanced himself from a move for O’Shea according to the Evening Chronicle.

As of yet no new names have been suggested, with Ledley King appearing unavailable, Michael Dawson too inexperienced and the likes of Daniel Gabbidon simply not good enough.

Souness and his scouting staff have six weeks to find suitable defensive targets, if they fail in this quest then I feel it is better they wait until the summer to strengthen the backline. We can ill afford to waste invaluable funds on players that do not improve greatly upon our current flock of defenders.
