Dawson has rejected claims that he is on his way to Newcastle United for £6m, but Spurs are favourites to land Dunne, and that could change everything.

Dawson: "I am happy here and I don't know where that has come from.

"We have got depth in the centre-back position, and hopefully the manager thinks like that as well.

"Fingers crossed it will be the same next year. It is competition and we want to push on."

But ... Tottenham and Newcastle are going head to head for Manchester City defender Richard Dunne.

The Ireland international was sent off against Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has long been a fan of the £6m-rated 28-year-old having managed him at City.

Spurs are keen to recruit Dunne as a partner for Jonathan Woodgate with doubts remaining over Ledley King's long term future.

Newcastle are also interested in Paris St Germain striker Amara Diane, 25, who Keegan watched on Saturday and Nantes defender Aristote Lusinga, 18.
