Duff, who is yet to kick a ball for the Magpies this season, has been on the sidelines since suffering a dislocation in the middle of his foot against Portsmouth back in April.
The injury had been career-threatening, however, Duff remained strong, battled his way back to fitness and is now looking to step-up his recovery.
With Sam Allardyce's tenure not starting as well as he would have liked, the return of one of the club's star players would come as a major boost.
