Does Roeder Need A Reality Check?

Glenn Roeder: "There are Premiership managers - naming no names - who live their lives successfully going from window to window to window.

"Yes, they survive, but with old players - players that I don't want to work with. Players that have had their shelf life and are past their sell-by date.

"The way I think Newcastle should be managed is as a buyer of younger talent that will increase in value and help Newcastle get where it should be in the long term."

There is no love lost between Roeder and Sam Allardyce. The Bolton boss voted against Roeder taking over at Newcastle because he didn't have the coaching tickets, and they have never seen eye-to-eye.

As for Harry Redknapp, the Pompey boss took Sol Campbell to Fratton Park in the summer when Roeder said the ex-Arsenal defender was over-the-hill. And how wrong Roeder was on that score!

The Toon manager is looking to bring in kids, just like Sir Bobby Robson before him, but perhaps he should be reminded ... you win NOTHING with kids ... just as Robson found out.

Gavilan and Viana are just two multi-million pound signing that went pair-shaped.
