'Disappointed' Newcastle star out injured until after World Cup

Newcastle United will once again be without club record signing Alexander Isak for their trip to Southampton this weekend.

The 22-year-old made a bright start to life on Tyneside but has been sidelined since mid-September with a thigh issue.

“He’s in the early stages of his injury now. He’s had two injections, I believe, into the thigh," Eddie Howe told reporters in his press conference this week.

"I think he was given around a five-week diagnosis but these things can change with muscle injuries.

“We’re taking it slowly with him because there is no need to rush him initially, giving him a little bit more time to recover. We hope when we start training again he’ll join in with the group.”

Newcastle have no fresh injury concerns in their squad, with Fabian Schar and Allan Saint-Maximin both expected to feature at St Mary's despite having been doubts.

However, Joelinton will miss the game due to picking up a one-match ban.
