Romain was a player struggling in a lower French Division, while Morgan Amalfitano was a star in his own right in the top flight.
Morgan Amalfitano is currently on a season-long loan at West Brom from Marseille and the Frenchman has been one of the stars of the season.
The 29-year-old has been earning impressive reviews for his performances at the Hawthorns and he has scored two goal-of-the-season contenders following memorable strikes against Manchester United and Cardiff to bring him to the attention to a number of the Premier League's bigger clubs.
Amalfitano has shown his versatility for West Brom by playing all across the midfield and as a wing-back even though the player sees his ideal position in a more conventional No.10 role.
West Brom are keen to turn Amalfitano's loan spell into a permanent deal, but the Baggies are understood to have missed the deadline in their loan agreement to make the player's move full-time.
The news has alerted other Premier League sides to Amalfitano's possible availability and his suitors are weighing up moves for the player this summer.
Marcelo Bielsa, who is expected to take over as new Marseille coach, is thought to be keen on bringing Amalfitano back to the Stade Velodrome next season, but the attacking midfielder has his heart set on staying in the Premier League.
Amalfitano's agent, Willie McKay, confirmed Marseille are keen to bring him back to France, but says that the player would prefer to stay in England.
"Marseille are keen to have Morgan back in their team next season as they have been keeping tabs on his performances for West Brom," McKay told Sky Sports.
"West Brom would like to sign him, but they have missed the cut-off point in the loan deal to make it permanent as they were unable to commit to a deal due to the uncertainty over their Premier League status.
"I know a lot of other Premier League clubs are interested in Morgan and are monitoring developments.
"Morgan has really enjoyed this season at West Brom and he would love to stay in the Premier League."
